Water Bubbles

Blow through a straw into water to create backpressure that relaxes your vocal folds. A powerful upgrade to basic straw phonation with real-time feedback.

Blowing into water creates oscillation. This vibration creates backpressure and sensory feedback, helping you release tension and engage breath support without strain. This is a variation of Straw Phonation that adds the physical feedback of water resistance.

Actionable Step: Water Bubbles

1. The Sound

Place a small straw into a half-full glass of water. Blow steady bubbles. The sound should be a consistent bubbling noise, not a violent splash.

2. The Feel

Focus on the sensation of the water wobbling. This vibration should travel back up the straw and gently massage your throat. Keep your cheeks loose and relaxed.

3. The Drill

Oscillate through 3-1-3-5 across 16 beats. Starting on the third instead of the root gives a different resonance feel, and the ascending pattern shows how resonance changes across your range. Focus on maintaining a steady stream of bubbles as you change pitches.

Practice with Vocal Driller

If the bubbles are erratic, your breath support is uneven. Aim for a smooth, continuous "purr" of bubbles.
